Most of the houses we get called to went up between 1967 and 1999, with the median landing around 1980. That's a long enough stretch that the hardware on your door depends a lot on which decade your tract got built. Across the twelve named areas we cover, the bulk of the stock is 1980s and 90s construction - garages built for single or double cars with torsion springs mounted the way builders standardized on by then, not the older side-mount or extension setups you'd find in a genuinely old neighborhood.
The places nearest us - Oak Park about 2 miles north, Westlake Village 3 miles out, Bell Canyon and Hidden Hills each around 6 miles - sit in that same general build window, so the failures look similar: springs rated for a specific door weight that's now 30-plus years old, openers from the same era hitting the end of their motor life. Farther out, Lake Sherwood at 7 miles and Woodland Hills 9 miles east still fall inside that range. Santa Susana, Topanga, and Santa Rosa Valley, all around 10 miles, start to mix in a bit more variety, and once you're out toward Somis, Piru, Stevenson Ranch, and Fillmore - 16 to 19 miles - you're well outside anything we'd call a quick trip.
